The site is positioned on the country of the southern Gumbaynggirr Nation. Working with community-nominated artists Annalisa Wilson, Denise Buchanan and Francine Edwards, and Brisbane sculptor Stephen Newton, Balarinji briefed, facilitated and project managed the commission that brought ‘The Women who Made the Sea’ story to life.
The resulting granite and steel sculpture is a source of pride for the Gumbaynggirr community and educates travellers and locals alike on the Gumbaynggirr Dreaming story and the importance of the area’s ecology.
