Balarinji co-developed a local narrative and key themes for artwork commission with locally-connected Aboriginal community members.
The work from community-endorsed artist, the late Jessica Birk was selected for the project. Jessica was a Yaegl woman who was raised and lived and worked on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Her artwork titled “Shorelines and Storylines” is about the story of place historically, as documented in the area’s rock engravings, as well as its contemporary stories acknowledging and celebrating the connections between land and water.
Jessica passed away after a long illness following this commission.
