The design was inspired by the incredible storytelling and artwork, ‘Kengatha Kathiwatha Kathini’ or To Grow, Flowing Water by Jade Kennedy of the Tatti-Tatti/Wadi-Wadi/Muddi-Muddi – West Kulin Nation and Wajak/Kaardjin – Noongar Nation, who resides in Melbourne, Victoria.
‘Kengatha Kathiwatha Kathini’ speaks of flowing current of culture and Country, as well as linking it to the Journey of Life. The vibrant colours represent the colours of the earth and Country, as well as the water.
Coates also commissioned the original artwork to hang in its Head Office.
Jade worked with Balarinji and Coates to develop a short film, showcasing Coates’ reconciliation journey, the development of the artwork and its importance to the company’s vision.
