Our services

Public art & curatorial

We deliver public art from concept to installation and curatorial consultancy for major projects and precincts. We translate place-based narratives to create experiential, authentic and restorative spaces.

Our public art and curatorial strategies draw from place-based and community-specific cultural design principles, a design toolkit that translates local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, culture, art, stories and identity for major projects.

Balarinji’s public art commissions and curatorial advisory services celebrate a contemporary Australian identity that embraces its rich 60,000+ year-old foundational story.

We have four decades of experience delivering a wide range of mediums, from permanent installations to ephemeral collections.

Our work spans interior and exterior responses to large scale public art, interpretive precincts, parklands, national and international institutions, corporate offices, retail outlets and public spaces.

Our experience extends also to landscape art, urban furniture, floor art, wayfinding, glazing, museum and art collection curatorial projects and more.

Balarinji has proven experience in respectfully integrating Indigenous and non-Indigenous works. We recognise the presence and value of incorporating and contextualising non-Indigenous commissions.

"Balarinji listens in a way that everyone is heard, within a truly client-responsive process. Balarinji brought great ideas and a special energy to our project. Nothing prior measured up to the process Balarinji provided."
